COPWEAPS was founded in 1986 by Robin Raven & Nicolai "K" Jensen and spawned from the band "Praeservativ Ungdom" (Condom Youth).

The first songwriting collaboration resulted in "Bønnewestern" a song about homophobia, genocide, rape culture and the condemnable concept of patriarchy. It was recorded on a cassette recorder and played with acoustic guitar and some pencils hitting stuff as percussion.

Tobias Arrildt AKA Jack joined the band as bassist and more songs came about, at some point COPWEAPS had their DEBUT gig at a place called Køge Gymnasium and strangely enough we did not get beaten up.

As K went to a school which housed a recording studio COPWEAPS grabbed the chance for their first multitracked recording session, Esben did the engineering & mixing, K played guitar & bass on that recording session & Kristian "KØ" Østergaard did the vocals.

Rehearsals took place more frequently and we got better at handling our instruments (or those we could borrow) on Vocals we were joined by Tiff Warlo & later on Jens "Langejens" Svane, both stayed with COPWEAPS for quite some time and we gigged quite a lot in Copenhagen mostly in the nice squats.

Also we gigged a couple of times in Hellsingore and almost every gig there ended with violence. COPWEAPS managed to play once or twice in Aarhus, jutland which was the farthest away we managed to get from the Copenhagen base.

The bandname COPWEAPS (kopwæbz) is a wordplay on the strings out of a spiders ass mixed with the slang on police officer (cop) and weapons (weaps).

Cops weapons are usually quite unpleasant to be at the recieving end of so we thought it would be cool to keep a focus on - as band we are overall friendly and nice to encounter.

At some point in the early 90ies COPWEAPS broke up while the members got busy doing other things and joining other bands. On january the 14th 1994 COPWEAPS did a reunion gig with their most consistent lineup:

  • LangeJens: Vocals

at the dearly missed UNGDOMSHUSET, jagtvej 69 Copenhagen The gig was probably the most successful gig COPWEAPS ever played and the atmosphere was extatic untill some dumbass sprayed maze in the concerthall, well after letting some air in the party went on, it was a night to remember. Since that gig was just a one-off it would take quite some time before COPWEAPS would appear live on stage again.

2018 COPWEAPS played with WASTE, W.O.T. & DR. KNOW at the club "Underwerket" in Valby, Copenhagen, set up by Murda Twinz booking.

  • Robin Raven: drums

this lineup is the COPWEAPS consolidated and later that year COPWEAPS was invited to back Brandon Cruz and play as DR. KNOW for some gigs in the U.K. also joining DR. KNOW was Alioscha Serge from THE NATURAL DISASTERS on guitar.

This DR. KNOW lineup had the pleasure of being invited to play at the 10 years Birthday Bash of the PUNX UNDEAD booking crew with fine acts NRG, HEROES2NONE & SOCIAL NEDTUR, it was a memorable night and a fun gig.

2020: we are still waiting for the bookings to come in and COPWEAPS is playing with the idea of recording their first album, after 34 years it´s about time.
